Uncertain times - what can you as a manager do for your employees?

Uncertain times?

War, increased prices for electricity, food and other things, as well as increased interest rates are something that affects many businesses and not least affects the everyday lives of many people. What measures can the manager take for the employees in uncertain times?

Listening to the employees and allowing the employees to feel seen and heard increases trust in the manager. In difficult times it is probably even more important than in boom times.

Temperature measurements in the form of employee surveys and conducting employee interviews are a concrete means of ensuring that the employees are given the opportunity to give their feedback.


Does the employees' feedback agree with the manager's perception of what the situation is like? In anonymous surveys, all employees have the opportunity to give honest feedback on topics such as the working environment, how they experience management in the company, how they enjoy their work tasks and how satisfied they are with their own development opportunities.

It is useful for you as a manager to agree whether there is a match between your perception of the map and how the terrain really is with the employees.

Employee survey

The employee survey can help form a basis for focus areas in the employee interviews.

Through one-to-one conversations, you get the opportunity to go deeper into the work, and to bring relevant information to the surface.

If you have e.g. employees who spend a lot of time worrying about the increased uncertainty in society, their own personal finances or the company's financial prospects, it can be useful to have the opportunity to share this information with the manager.

Research shows that a manager who listens and gives confidence motivates extra effort and sickness absence decreases. Moreover, it can prevent problems and dissatisfaction.
